Another successful BC Achievement Award presentation, congratulations to Noah Richler, recipient of the 3rd annual award for This is My Country, What’s Yours? A Literary Atlas of Canada. The award was presented by Premier Gordon Campbell and Keith Mitchell in Vancouver, April 19th. It’s a real pleasure to work with this client.

Afghanistan amputees editorial v.1
April 17, 2007
I attended a storytelling event last night in Whistler and, while absolutely brilliant, I felt most presenters would have benefited greatly from liberal doses of self-editing. After all, to revise and distill … and distill again … is probably what separates brilliance from genius. With this philosophy in mind, I’m trying hard not to over-design this article for Xpat magazine. The photos are so powerful and so haunting, the last thing I want is to take away from their impact with useless graphic elements and embellishments. Yet… how can I bring out the beauty even more? Someone wise once said to me: “simplicity is elegance,” and that is why I’ve desaturated the colour from all the photographs. To me, this project just doesn’t need the added distraction of colour.

Hilton Whistler re-branding
April 11, 2007
A spankin’ new brand for Hilton Whistler’s fine dining restaurant. The concept reinforces the exceptional food and service promise that is the Hilton hallmark, and adds a modern flair with cool fonts and colour schemes. The restaurant’s interior images were not strong, so we opted instead to focus on food photography which worked out quite well. The client is thrilled.

Working on an article for the new issue of Xpat on amputees in Afghanistan. Beautifully written and hauntingly photographed. It’s an honor to be selected as the designer for this one. Stay tuned for layouts.
