I attended a storytelling event last night in Whistler and, while absolutely brilliant, I felt most presenters would have benefited greatly from liberal doses of self-editing. After all, to revise and distill … and distill again … is probably what separates brilliance from genius. With this philosophy in mind, I’m trying hard not to over-design this article for Xpat magazine. The photos are so powerful and so haunting, the last thing I want is to take away from their impact with useless graphic elements and embellishments. Yet… how can I bring out the beauty even more? Someone wise once said to me: “simplicity is elegance,” and that is why I’ve desaturated the colour from all the photographs. To me, this project just doesn’t need the added distraction of colour.
